Peripheral Nerve Stimulation with Stimwave

Stimwave devices work by providing electrical impulses to a target area in the body. These impulses are intended to interrupt or change the pain signals, inducing the feeling of tingling or numbness (paresthesia), and possibly reducing or replacing the feeling of pain. This is a minimally invasive, long-term treatment option for chronic pain conditions relating to upper and lower limbs, entrapment syndromes, intercostal neuralgias, and other peripheral injuries or disease. After implantation of the leads the patient is given a handheld programmer to control the stimulation settings.

Stimwave offers two types of neurostimulator devices. Both the Peripheral Nerve Stimulator (PNS) and Spinal Cord Stimulator (SCS) relieve pain by sending electrical stimulation to specific nerve locations where the pain is present and then blocks those pain signals from reaching the brain. The PNS System treats chronic intractable pain by targeting individual nerves throughout your body, while the SCS System is used to treat chronic intractable pain typically associated with your back and legs.

Freedom stimulators offer:

  • FDA cleared systems for chronic intractable pain

  • Full body, targeted pain relief

  • A non-drug therapy option

  • Minimally-invasive technology

  • Out-patient procedure

  • Reduced risk of complications

  • No battery implanted inside of your body

  • External power transmitter eliminates sitting while charging

  • Systems that are full-body

  • 3T and 1.5T MRI Conditional

Stimwave’s StimQ Peripheral Nerve Stimulator System (PNS) utilizes the same technology as the Freedom SCS System. A neurostimulator with electrodes and a receiver to utilize wireless RF power is placed near a peripheral nerve in your body, below the head, to treat your chronic pain. Fitting through a needle sized incision allows for placement with minimally invasive surgery, typically as an outpatient procedure.

Before the device is implanted permanently, there is typically a trial period to determine if the therapy is effective for your chronic pain. PNS is covered by most insurance plans. Consult with your doctor to learn more about Stimwave StimQ PNS.
